This is a 'Reproine' - Mixture of Reproduction and Genuine parts. The slouch hat is genuine military probably from around the 1920's. The feathers are aged modern 'black grouse', the tartan (Murray of Atholl), is modern and aged and the 'Scottish Horse' badge is thought to be reproduction (although it may be genuine - we are not sure!).
The cap headband is marked 'Vero Everitt Ltd' who were hat makers from 1896 to the early 1990's and supplied caps to the military. The cap button is marked 'NEWEY PAT. 201430-22' - Newey were manufacturers of buttons, hooks and eyes, hairpins and wireless accessories from 1864 to approx. 1999.
The cap is naturally aged - we have not had to do any work on it. There is a large moth 'hole' along the left hand base, but this cannot be seen when the cap is displayed - see pictures. The badge we think is reproduction but it may be genuine we are not sure. The feathers are modern and aged and contain plastic material support on the inside (not visible).
This is probably the best Boer War reproduction cap available today. You now have the chance to own a piece of Boer War, Scottish, South African, Australian and English history.
