This is a reproduction German Model M1895 to World War One Enlisted Pickelhaube.
Saxony (Königreich Sachsen), existed from 1806 to 1918, was an independent member of a number of historical confederacies in Napoleonic through post-Napoleonic Germany. The kingdom was formed from the Electorate of Saxony. From 1871 it was part of the German Empire.
This type of helmet is around 1912 production. The body is black lacquered leather and the fittings are gilded gold wash. The nickel Saxon shield has several areas of oxidation and verdigris. The main metalwork is finished in brass and gilt (gold), washed. The chinstrap has good wear and age related finish. Notice the working vent on the rear spine and correctly coloured cockades and the age cracks in the leather body. This a superb high quality aged reproduction.
The inside has 11 fingered leather sweatband as issued to enlisted troops. The rear and front leather peaks are correctly left unfinished for an enlisted rank.
A similar genuine example is very rare, very sought after and would be worth £1500 to £3000, this one is a snip of a price and would look great in a study or office - a great discussion piece!
