These chinstraps were the third version to be worn on the M38 Helmet late WW2 from 1944 onwards. The buckle is blacked steel and the strap is Ersatzleder (fake leather).
As resources got scarce the material, quality and craftmanship declined, we have reflected this in our chinstraps so they are an accurate representation of a 1944 strap for the discerning collector or reenactor.
They are stitched with Gruschwitz No. 10 thread and have no real linen reinforcement and grease-free paper inside (unlike the Type 1 & 2). The machine manufactured zinc grommets will fit your helmet's bolts and nuts correctly.
These straps weigh only 50 to 80 grams depending on the version and are very strong, just like originals. All specifications are taken from the original drawings, real
wartime photographs from the Bundesarchiv and original chinstraps.
The features are:
- The correct weight and strength.
- The correct grommets - zinc plated.
- Made from grey-blue ersaztleder.
- Stitched in Gruschwitz No. 10 thread
- No real linen reinforcement and grease-free paper inside.
- Real reversed leather on the reverse.
- Will fit ET66, ET68 and ET71 versions of Helmet.
- Blackened steel sliding Buckle.
