The Polish Legions (Legiony Polskie) was a name of the Polish military force (the first active Polish army in generations), established in August 1914 in Galicia soon after World War I started between the opposing alliances of the Triple Entente on one side (comprising the British Empire, the French Republic and the Russian Empire) and the Central Powers on the other side, comprising the German Empire and Austria-Hungary. The Legions took part in many battles against the forces of Imperial Russia.
It is 20mm in diameter and is secured using the two pins on the reverse. Worn centrally under the Polish cap eagle, it was used to identify officer rank.
The penultimate picture shows the four types of badge available and the final picture shows a new badge mounted on the Polish cap.
