The Bombay Bowler probably originated as a smaller version of the Cawnpore Tent Club, which was made so popular, in the British Raj and by extension elsewhere in hot climates, by the visit of the Prince of Wales to India in 1875/76. It was never a British Army issue helmet but was privately purchased.
The Royal Scots (The Royal Regiment), once known as the Royal Regiment of Foot, was the oldest and most senior infantry regiment of the line of the British Army, having been raised in 1633 during the reign of Charles I.
The cap is in good but faded condition and has a small repair to the top strap just above the recognition flash. The inside celluloid is cracked and missing in places.
