'The Snowman' was used by Knights Cross winner Adalbert Schnee. Schnee is the German word for snow, hence the Snowman Emblem with knights cross.
U-201 was attacked for 5 hours in one operation (patrol) by HMS Amazon, HMS Nigella and HMS St. Apollo. 99 depth charges were dropped while trying to sink it. It was damaged but survived and returned to base. The Snowman was probably pretty warm after this attack!
U-201 was sunk on 17 February 1943 in the North Atlantic under the command of Günther Rosenberg.
This badge is a variation of the U-201 badges and is made from cast metal and measures 24mm tall and 15mm wide and is new condition.
The last pictures compares the new and aged versions.
