WW2 German M35 No Decal Helmet - Refurbishment:
This genuine M35 66 helmet shell, liner band and liner pins were supplied by a customer.
The shell is in relic condition but is solid, other than lots of small holes and pitting. The shell has been stripped down to clean metal. The liner band matches the corrosion but the liner pins are replica replacements.
The customer wanted just a plain green repaint and ageing, with suitable ageing to the liner pins, so the whole helmet looks like a ground dug helmet but the paint is visible.
We aged the pins to look corroded and always with the helmet. We repainted the helmet in green, making sure that no paint went into any of the 'pits', as this is an immediate give away that the shell has been repainted after being ground dug!
We then aged the helmet to ensure the new green paint looked period applied and then ground dug and then cleaned and restored!
Finally the whole helmet was given 2 coats of museum wax to protect the helmet and liner from further corrosion!
