m38 paratrooper ET68 helmet refurbishment

Refurbishment > WW2 German Helmets > WW2 German M38 ET68 Paratrooper Helmet - Refurbishment

WW2 German M38 ET68 Paratrooper Helmet - Refurbishment:

This ET68 Model 1938 helmet shell was purchased by us in 2020 in an online auction. It shows you can still get online bargains if you know what you are looking for and have a bit of luck. We will tell you more about the history later after its been refurbished.

The good points: The shell is still heavy and generally solid. There are three very small holes on the top where corrosion has set in. It has a batch marking and very faint ET68 marking. The original green paint is showing through in many places.

The bad points: It has been used for feeding animals - you can see the remains of the feed inside the shell. The liner, chinstrap and bolts have been removed. The bolt holes have been riveted shut - we guess to stop feed falling out! After being recovered from the farm it looks like someone has tried to spray it a horrible lime green colour and with bits of brown. We guess to make it look like a FJR6 Helmet.

Completed so far:
1. The lime green paint has been removed from the pit holes, the rivets have been drilled out and the small holes on top have been fixed.

To be continued...
