Refurbishment > WW2 German M42 Helmet Refurbishment
WW2 German M42 Helmet Refurbishment:
This German WW2 M42 helmet has a replica eagle and a genuine liner and is effectively made up from parts. However the shell is genuine and solid and retains its original colour. The top has however been sanded down post war, so it was either repaint the whole helmet or disguise it with a camouflage scheme.
06/Dec/2013: Our brief was only to add a name on the inside and paint the outside in winter camouflage and then age it, with lots of rust. The client also wanted thick lumps of paint on the outer shell in places to look like it was given a second coat of white paint to touch up the original white paint.

2/Jan/2014: The helmet is now complete. We have made it look as if it was painted with whitewash and then touched up in places with thicker white paint. Notice how we have made the paint flake away from the helmet in places so it looks very dry and brittle. Extremely difficult to do properly!
This replicates a M42 (Model 1942 stahlhelm), used possibly on the Russian (Eastern), front in winter 1942 to 1945.
A pretty standard Whermacht Heer helmet with post war damage turned into a helmet with life and history.
