The Imperial Schutztruppe for German South west Africa (German: Kaiserliche Schutztruppe für Deutsch-Südwestafrika) was the official name of the military formation that maintained the German Empire in its colony of German South West Africa. The Schutztruppe are held responsible for numerous war crimes in the Herero and Nama uprising in 1904. During the First World War, the Schutztruppe was defeated by the troops of the Union of South Africa.
Reproduction Schutztruppe in Deutsch-Südwest-Afrika, used around 1900 to 1918. Made of grey felted wool, cornflower blue band and piping, complete with the imperial cockade. Inside is a brown leather sweatband and makers label.
