The Carpathian Badge was an officially approved commemorative cap badge of the German Army of World War I. It was issued in solid silver for officers and for enlisted ranks, it was hollow-stamped aluminium (although there was a degree of exchangeability). It was worn between the two cockades of the cap.
It was usually worn by members of the Carpathian Corps. However, the Carpathian Badge could be worn by all units who fought for two months in the Carpathian Mountains from August 1916 to July 1917.
Attached with the two pins and sometimes fully secured with thread sewn round the top of the antlers.
