The United States Maritime Service (USMS) was established in 1938 as a voluntary training organization to train individuals to become officers and crewmembers on merchant ships that form the United States Merchant Marine.
This badge was worn from mid 1943 to the present day. There were two types of Maritime Service Eagles worn on the cap: embroidered and stamped metal. As the war wore on, masters (Captains), were the only ones who wore embroidered devices.
The penultimate picture shows an aged version of the badge on a WW2 cap, the final picture shows how you can mount the badge on a contemporary cap.
