It is made from 0.8mm brass sheet and has appropriate fixing holes, contrary to popular belief, few badges were made with pins as this irritated the wearers head when worn as a Kriegsmarine badge on the cap. They were hand made by the U-boat crews to indicate 'The Boat', they belonged to, a badge of honour and worn with pride.
