From 11 Jun 1940 to 7 Sep 1941 commanded by Kptlt. Georg-Wilhelm Schulz (Knights Cross) & from Sep 1941 - 2 Apr 1943 KrvKpt. Johann Mohr (Knights Cross).

It sunk 46 ships, 2 warships and 4 ships damaged. It was sunk on 2 April, 1943 west of Oporto, by depth charges from the British corvette HMS Stonecrop and the British sloop HMS Black Swan. All 53 crew were killed.
