Museum quality U-Boat cap as worn by Kapitänleutnant Günther Krech of U-boat U-558.

Krech carried out over ten patrols, mostly in the Atlantic and Caribbean, he sank or destroyed 19 ships. U-558 was sunk by US aircraft on 20 July 1943 in the Bay of Biscay. Only Kptlt. Krech, and 4 other men survived. Günther Krech then spent some years in Allied captivity. He died in 2000.

The peak, liner and chinstrap etc. all show good wear and both the inside and outside are lightly stained and aged. Notice the gold emblem and Captains peak ranking are nicely tarnished. Notice the wear, dirt and light stains particularly on the top of the cap.

The top is fully removable and it is marked EREL - Sonder Klasse - OKK - Berlin on both liner and sweat protector.  This cap is made in Germany and the EREL mark is copyright  today making it even more exclusive. The Eagle is our museum quality item with light to medium corrosion stains.

The sweat protector reads 'G. Krech U-558' and there is a little momento hidden inside the leather headband.
