Our Type 1 M38 Paratrooper Helmet chinstraps are hand made by a military leather-worker who lives only 300 miles from Thale in Germany who aims for 100% accuracy in his work. These chinstraps were the very first version to be worn on the M38 Helmet pre-WW2 and some were also worn during WW2 even after the introduction of the second (gate buckle), version
There are two types available - Type 1A and 1B. The only difference between Type 1A and 1B is the number of grommet holes on the rear straps, the Type 1A having four (and two hoops) and the type 1B having three. The Type 1A was made before 16th of June 1938 and the 1B after this period up to approximately the Netherlands invasion (10th and 11th May 1940).
Made from genuine grey-blue top dyed goatskin and real chamois (so shades vary), not just reversed leather like many cheap reproductions. They are stitched with Gruschwitz No. 10 thread, real linen reinforcement and packing paper inside just like the originals (they also used newspapers on the inside instead of paper!). The machine manufactured aluminium grommets will fit your helmet's bolts and nuts correctly.
These straps weigh only 50 grams and are very strong, just like originals - light but strong, not fat imitation pigskin used on poor reproductions! All specifications are taken from the original drawings, real wartime photographs from the Bundesarchiv and original chinstraps. We started production from the ground up without using replica’s as samples, as we wanted to offer 100% accuracy.
