WW2 British Tommy Helmet Free French - Refurbishment:
This British helmet shell was sent to us by a customer. It was just the shell and liner. The shell was completely stripped. The customer wanted a Free French helmet. It is dated 1940 on the shell.
Free France and its Free French Forces (French: France Libre and Forces françaises libres) were the government-in-exile led by Charles de Gaulle during the Second World War and its military forces, that continued to fight against the Axis powers as one of the Allies after the fall of France. Much of the Army was equipped by the British and US forces.
In summary we did the following: repainted in British issue green with sand, added Free French Insignia, conditioned the liner and chinstrap (to preserve it), aged the helmet shell and finally preserved the shell with museum wax.
