WW2 German Artillery Officers Peaked Cap - Refurbishment:
This cap was sent to us by one of our customers. The outside was pretty much immaculate but the inside looked as if it had been attacked by a small animal or perhaps children!
The wreath is period attached on a black background but had been badly stiched, covering the lower red piping. The inside front support was detached, the lining ripped and the grey leather liner was ripped and detached in several places.
The peak had lost its stiching at both ends and the complete cap had lost its nice rounded shape.
We have made the restoration obvious that it has been restored but tried to maintain the liner as if the grey outer leather had flaked off, revealing the inner leather. This has actually happened in several areas. We have cut and attached the top of the wreath, revealing the piping and shaped the cap nicely as well of course as reattaching the leather and peak. This was two hours work in total but we think it was well worth the effort for such a lovely looking (and smelling!), cap.
