Do you wonder which is the best way to display your pickelhaube helmet covers? Your genuine pickelhaube cover will be near or over 100 years old. It could be very weak and frayed. The last thing you want to do is to tear it, but you do want to display it. Some people display them on their original helmets, but the problem with this is that you then cannot see the beauty of the helmet, you are effectively hiding it. In addition they were made quite tight, so there is a very real danger of tearing it. Others make moulds of their pickelhaube using plaster and paper etc. Not only is this messy and time consuming but you could damage the pickelhaube. We have found an effective, inexpensive and quick way of displaying your WW1 German pickelhaube camouflage covers. Buy a cheap plastic helmet for less than £10 and use this for your display. You can get them on auction sites and on the internet. We have found that they are slightly smaller than 'average' pickelhaubes which means there is less chance of damaging the cover. You are all set for your displaying your pickelhaube cover in all its glory! Comments are closed.
